Why choose Gel Ultra?

On a long effort, the challenge is not only to take in energy. It is to keep taking it in, again and again, all the way to the finish line.

After 4, 8 or 12 hours of effort, a gel that is too sweet, too strongly flavoured or too acidic eventually stops going down — and the nutrition strategy collapses with it.

Gel Ultra was designed to answer that precise problem. Its neutral flavour, its hydrogel texture and its carbohydrate density make it the benchmark energy gel for long-duration efforts: the one you will still take willingly when the others start to turn your stomach.

Designed to follow you from the first to the last kilometre, without ever becoming a constraint.

A neutral, very lightly sweetened flavour, so it never saturates

Most energy gels are formulated to be pleasant on the first one. Gel Ultra is formulated to still be pleasant on the last.

Its flavour is deliberately neutral and very lightly sweetened. No flavouring, no acidity, no syrupy sensation lingering in the mouth. The result: you can take one serving after another for hours without taste fatigue, and without that reluctance that makes you skip one serving — then two.

This neutrality has a second advantage. It lets you alternate with your other intakes without any clash of flavours: flavoured energy drink, sweet or savoury purée, solid food. Gel Ultra never layers itself on top of what you already have in your mouth.

An energy gel with a Hydrogel texture

Unlike conventional liquid gels, Gel Ultra stands apart with its hydrogel texture: gelled and dense, it is taken in one go, without dripping, without sticking to your fingers and without leaving your mouth pasty.

In practice, that means a gel you swallow easily in a marathon, on a trail or on the bike, without needing a large amount of water to wash the texture down.

30 g of carbohydrates in a 2:1 ratio

Current endurance recommendations place optimal intake between 60 and 90 g of carbohydrates per hour. Athletes with the best-trained digestive systems now target up to 120 g/h. But you still have to be able to absorb them — and to carry them.

Gel Ultra provides 30 g of carbohydrates per gel — a density that lets you build a clear nutrition strategy without multiplying the number of gels to carry and manage.

Glucose and fructose use two distinct intestinal transporters. Combining them in a 2:1 ratio pushes past the absorption ceiling of a single source. That is the proportion chosen for Gel Ultra: you assimilate more carbohydrates every hour, with better digestive tolerance and fewer residual carbohydrates left in the gut.

  • The baseline intake — 60 g/h : 1 Gel Ultra + 500 ml of Hydrixir Ultra energy drink per hour.
  • The sustained intake — 90 g/h: 2 Gels Ultra + 500 ml of Hydrixir Ultra per hour.
  • The maximum intake — 120 g/h: 3 Gels Ultra + 500 ml of Hydrixir Ultra per hour. An intake at this level has to be prepared: increase the amounts gradually in training before applying it on race day.

190 mg of electrolytes, to offset sweat losses

Long efforts, especially in hot weather, come with significant mineral losses. Gel Ultra provides 190 mg of electrolytes — sodium and magnesium — to help offset those losses as the effort goes on.

A formula designed for digestive comfort

The Gel Ultra formula comes down to 6 ingredients. No preservatives, no colourings, no acidifiers: three choices that all point the same way — limiting anything that could irritate a stomach already under strain from several hours of effort, and preserving digestive comfort all the way to the finish.

Born in the field, with our athletes

Gel Ultra was developed and proven in the field, in collaboration with the OVERSTIM.s athletes — among them François d'Haene, a world reference in trail running and ultra-endurance.

It was their feedback, serving after serving and race after race, that guided the product's most structuring decisions: the amount of carbohydrates, the very lightly sweetened flavour and the texture.

The energy gel of the ULTRA range

Gel Ultra brings concentrated carbohydrate density and neutral flavour. It is part of a range built around a single principle: going the distance without getting sick of what you eat.

  • Hydrixir Ultra — the isotonic energy drink, the foundation of your hydration and your baseline carbohydrate intake
  • Purée Ultra — the semi-liquid texture and taste variety, sweet or savoury
  • Gommes Ultra — the split intake: one chew at a time, to fine-tune your dosing and break the monotony through chewing
  • Barre Ultra — the solid option: chewing and a real sense of eating, for the less intense phases

Gel Ultra is taken during exercise:

  • The baseline intake — 60 g of carbohydrates/h : 1 Gel Ultra + 500 ml of Hydrixir Ultra energy drink per hour.
  • The sustained intake — 90 g of carbohydrates/h: 2 Gels Ultra + 500 ml of Hydrixir Ultra per hour.
  • The maximum intake — 120 g of carbohydrates/h: 3 Gels Ultra + 500 ml of Hydrixir Ultra per hour. An intake at this level has to be prepared: increase the amounts gradually in training before applying it on race day.

Depending on your preferences, you can also alternate Gels Ultra with OVERSTIM.s chews, bars or purées, in order to vary textures during prolonged efforts.
